17 September 2021 - UIC Lunchtime Research Sharing Session

Dear colleagues,


As the new semester begins, you are cordially invited to the UIC Lunchtime Research Sharing Sessions cum DHSS Research Seminar Series.

This lunchtime sharing session is a platform of communication among scholars at UIC and universities nearby. Starting from 12 noon, a scholar will share his/her research for about 30 minutes, followed by a 20 minute discussion with attendants. It’s a biweekly activity.

This semester, we will kick off with a research sharing by Dr. Shihlun Allen Chen, Associated Professor with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and the School of International Relations, Sun Yat-sen University, China. As a cultural anthropologist, Dr. Chen will share with us his research on “Eating identities: a political ethnography of Cambodian noodle consumptions.” Special thanks to Dr. Yi-Lung Kuo for inviting Dr. Shihlun Chen over for the talk.

Speaker Bio:

Shihlun Allen Chen 陳世倫 obtained his Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology (University of Hawaii at Manoa), MAs in Political Economy, Southeast Asian Studies, and Anthropology. He is currently an Associated Professor with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and the School of International Relations, Sun Yat-sen University, China. Dr. Chen’s current work focuses on Cambodian Studies, China’s Southeast Asian policy, Foreign Aid Policies, Identity Studies, Immigration Studies, Diasporic Ethnography, and Cross-Strait issues.
