PRA student wins First Place Award at provincial English speaking contest

UIC student Bay Feng (from PRA, DHSS) was awarded the “First Place Award”, which was the runner-up honour to the Grand Prize in the 2016 "FLTRP (Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press) Cup" and Guangdong Collegiate English Public Speaking Contest.

The Contest was held at the Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University in Guangzhou on 6 November. Year Three student Ms Feng has achieved the highest result from any UIC competitor in the past.

From around the province, 66 contestants participated in the speaking contest in which only 13 were chosen to compete in the Final Round. Bay Feng scored the second highest in the Provincial Semi-Final and was one of the 13 contestants to enter the Final Round to compete for the top three spots (Grand Prize) in the National Speaking Contest in Beijing.

During an interview with Bay Feng after the Speaking Contest, she described her experience as both enlightening and educational. She expressed “this experience is absolutely precious to me” and it “shows me the aspects I need to improve in the future.” At the end of the interview, Bay also gave special thanks to teachers and staff from ELC (English Language Centre), namely Sammi Tan, Glen Yue, Leck Wall and Bruce Destefano.
