Dr. Zhitian Wang Delivered a Lecture on Early Tang Poetry in the Perspective of Digital Humanities

Dr. Xiaolong Diao from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) at UIC invited Dr. Zhitian Wang from Sun Yat-sen University (Zhuhai) to present an exceptional lecture on November 18, 2024. The lecture, entitled "The Intertextual Space Between Chuxue Ji and the Poetry of the Early Tang in the Perspective of Digital Humanities: Taking Jinglong Wenguan Ji as a Case Study," was attended by Prof. Shawn Xiang Wang (Head of CFLC), Dr. Bo Yan, Dr. Jianing Chen, and many students.

Dr. Wang’s lecture explored the intertextual relationship between Chuxue Ji and early Tang poetry. Using digital humanities tools like the BERT-CCPoem model developed by Tsinghua University, the study analyzed semantic similarities to build an intertextual knowledge base. This innovative approach sheds new light on ancient Chinese literary creation and its knowledge structures.

The lecture showcased innovative digital humanities research methods, providing students with an interdisciplinary academic perspective. Dr. Wang’s approach integrates computational techniques with traditional literary studies, pioneering new pathways in ancient literature research. Finally, Dr. Jianing Chen  presented a souvenir to the speaker, and the lecture was successfully concluded with a happy group photo.
