Organized by the University of Macao, five TESL staff and students at UIC were invited to attend the Pearl River Delta Conference 2012: Culture and Identity in Times of Change through February 23-25.
The conference provided a platform for young scholars to share research ideas in fields of humanities and social sciences, including communications, cultural studies, translation, linguistics, literature, and sociology.
Lu Lulu(above), the only undergraduate at the conference to present her FYP project supervised by Dr. Dave Towey: Narrow-Intensive Reading can Help Move New Data from STM to LTM.
An M.Phil student, Chen Zheng(above), presented her working paper co-authored with Dr. Dave Towey and Dr. Gary Linebarger: Interacting in a Pidgin Culture: Managing Rapport in Intercultural Communication.
A TESL 07 graduate student, Alex Wang(top right), presented his paper co-authored with Dr. Dave Towey: Education Change Beyond Introducing “New Toys”
