Invited Talk by Associate Professor Walter Hsu - October 2023

The talk by Associate Professor Walter Hsu (National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan) focused on the adaptation by the theatre group Contemporary Legend of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. By looking at the group's acting, staging and directing choices, Dr. Hsu discussed how this adaptation departs from Shakespeare’s original play. He also discussed what cross-cultural connotations it might entail. The talk also raised related aesthetic and political issues around cross-cultural theatre practices. The talk was organised by the Centre for Foreign Languages and Cultures.
