The Minor Program is to be offered by the Media and Communication Studies (MCOM) Program and administered under the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS).


The general aim of the Minor Program is to provide students with a foundation in hands-on journalism skills and/or critical media literacy for the rapidly changing and highly interdisciplinary media industries globally. Specifically, the program objectives are to provide students with:


(1) English competence in journalism and/or media representations with a global purview.


(2) Writing, reporting, and creative skills that be applied in various subfields of the media industry as producers and/or analysts.


(3) A critical and sociological perspective in understanding modern media institutions, texts, and cultures.

Students are required to complete units within the curriculum structure as follows: Major Required Courses, Major Elective Courses and College Core Courses. 


Curriculum Structure of the Minor Programme in Journalism and Media Studies

Required Courses – students should complete 3 units (1 to be chosen out of the 2 listed below):

The Internship course will be open every Semester 1 for major students of Y4. For Minor students who have fulfilled all other 12 units (4 courses) under the Journalism category with a minimum GPA2.5 will be approved to finish his/her Minor programme with the capstone course of the internship. However, the candidate will need to join the Internship Infor Session in March (Semester 2) before the registration to confirm the approval from the Programme Director.
