Dr. Jianing Chen Attended a Conference at Fudan University

    The Fifth International Symposium on Chinese Phonology and Semantics was held in Shanghai on October 18-19, organized by the Center for Research on Excavated Classics and Paleography (CRECP) at Fudan University. Dr. Jianing Chen from CCGC, DCom attended it and presented a paper.



    On the morning of the 18th, Prof. Zhang Xiaoyan of the CRECP presided over the opening ceremony, after which Prof. Liu Zhao, Director of the CRECP at Fudan University, delivered the welcome address. Over the course of the conference, scholars delivered insightful presentations and engaged in lively discussions. Morning sessions featured plenary presentations, while the 18th afternoon was dedicated to panel discussions. On the morning of the 19th, Dr. Jianing Chen presented his paper, 'A Study on the Separate Usage and Interpretation of Chinese Binomials: A Historical Linguistics Perspective,' sparking significant attention and discussion among attendees.




    In recent years, Dr. Chen has participated in the research team of Prof. Chen Zhi, the President of BNBU, and collaborated with scholars from institutions such as Hong Kong Baptist University, Fudan University, and Xiamen University. The research has focused on topics such as "On the Digital Platform for Binomial (Lianmian Words) in Ancient Chinese" (team project) and "Lianmian ci (连绵词 Binomials) in Bamboo Manuscripts of Chu State" (individual project). His work involves analyzing cases of binomial words in both received and excavated early Chinese texts, alongside theoretical investigations into related issues, achieving notable progress. At this conference, Dr. Chen established connections with several scholars sharing common research interests, anticipating further collaboration in the future.



    The Center for Research on Excavated Classics and Paleography at Fudan University is a leading academic institution in China specializing in excavated texts and paleography. For many years, the centre was led by the renowned Chinese paleographer Prof. Qiu Xigui (19352025). The Director of the Centre, Prof. Liu Zhao, is a Changjiang Distinguished Professor at Fudan University. With his numerous academic achievements, he is recognized as one of China's leading experts in Chinese paleography. Supported by the Major Project of the National Social Science Fund, 'Compilation and Research of Loan Character Variants in Dunhuang and Turfan Texts and its Database Construction', led by Prof. Zhang Xiaoyan from the CRECP, this conference brought nearly 100 experts and scholars specializing in Chinese philology, exegesis, and excavated texts, from both China and abroad, to Fudan University. The symposium represents the cutting-edge research in these related fields in China.
