• Professor Beibei Tang will join Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University in early 2026 as the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Professor Tang’s academic career spans China, the United Kingdom, and Australia. She studied at Wuhan University, the University of Oxford, and the Australian National University. Between 2015 and 2025, Professor Tang worked at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, where she held a range of leadership positions, including Head of the Department of China Studies (2017-20), Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (2020-25), and Acting Director of the University Research Centre for Culture, Communication, and Society (2022-25).


    A leading scholar in China Studies, Professor Tang specialises in China’s social and political development. She has published widely in high-impact journals and with major academic presses, including Routledge and Cornell University Press. Her research excellence has been recognised with the 2015 China Quarterly Gordon White Prize. She also serves on the editorial boards of The China Journal and The China Quarterly, and is a member of the Humanities and Social Sciences Panel of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council. In addition, she is an Honorary Professor at the China Studies Centre of the University of Sydney.
