I am deeply honored to receive the Best Data Journalism Award. This recognition not only affirms my work but also underscores the importance of critical and fact-based reporting in this age of information. Journalism, particularly when driven by data, plays a pivotal role in revealing the truth obscured by rumors and misinformation. I dedicate this award to everyone committed to the accuracy and integrity of the media, and it motivates me to continue pursuing meaningful storytelling. Lastly, special gratitude goes to Mr.Vincent, whose invaluable guidance and unwavering support enabled me to craft this piece and attain such recognition.

(Best in News Reporting)

We are honored to receive recognition from China Daily for our work. Even in an era of widespread misinformation, we believe that truth can possess an incredibly powerful force, and the essence of journalism, in our view, is the same. During our four years of study at UIC, we developed our professional skills progressively through the curriculum, while also delving deeper into the core and meaning of journalism. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to our mentor, Vincent, who provided one-on-one professional advice throughout various processes, including topic selection, information gathering, verification, writing, and more. His guidance has helped us further refine the qualities that journalists should possess, such as exploration and critical thinking.

Winning this award means a lot to us, this is a recognition of our hard work and dedication as well as our professionalism and creative talent in the field of journalism. Participating in the China Daily Campus News Awards was a valuable experience in our lives. We not only learned how to write excellent news reports, but also deeply realized the power and responsibility of journalism. Therefore, we sincerely thank China Daily Campus News Awards for giving us this meaningful award and a platform for college students to practice and improve our abilities.

For more than a month, we formed a small editing room, each with our own duties, and went through exciting or miserable moments together. Thanks to our active participation and efforts, we finally produced a good work.

And we’re thankful for Dr. Vincent for giving us professional advice and leading us to improve our work.

Last, we are honored and grateful to receive this award. This is just a small step on our journalistic path, but a very meaningful one. We will always remember this valuable experience in the future and keep learning and surpassing ourselves.

YANG Chenchen

(Best in Business News Reporting)

I am very honored to receive this award from China Daily. The piece I chose to enter into this competition was my Final Year Project, which was about paid internships. The source of inspiration for this story came from an example close to me. During the process of creating the story, I thought of giving up many times for various reasons, but with the encouragement and guidance of my professor, Vincent Lam, I was able to complete the story. Looking back on my time studying at UIC, I feel that this award is the best reward for my studies in these years.

Here I would like to thank my professor Vincent once again for all the support he has given me and for his patience and guidance. I would also like to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who has helped me in my life and academics. Thank you all !!!

DU Xi, YANG Xiaoyu, ZHANG Yuxing

(Best in Arts and Culture News Reporting)

It's a great privilege for us to receive the prize in the China Daily Arts and Culture News Reporting category. We are immensely grateful to the organizing committee for recognizing our work. Our award-winning piece focused on the current issues plaguing the Chinese collectable market and the new challenges and opportunities that arise with the shift toward online platforms. We sincerely like to express our appreciation to the interviewees from the collectable industry who support us in sharing their experiences, and our supervisor Dr. Vincent Lam’s support for guidance and submission. Through this article, we hope to raise awareness about how collectables. At the same time, we also thank China daily for giving us such an opportunity to win the award. We will continue to work hard in reporting and surpass ourselves.

LONG Wenwei, WU Siying, LIU Ruiming, HOU Yitong, ZENG Jingtong, XIAO Xiaoyao

(Best in News Video Reporting)

It’s a great honor for us to win the China Daily Campus News Award. We are sincerely grateful for Ms. Dai Fei’s valuable advice. We also hope our video can raise people’s awareness and think of the changing function of temples.

ZHAO Wanru

(Best in Features Video Reporting)

First and foremost, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the subjects of my documentary. They were willing to be filmed shortly after their recovery during the early stages of the COVID-19 relaxation. The completion of this documentary is significant to me because it taught me to be observant and to recognize the people and events around. They don't need to be renowned activists, nor do they require a multitude of accolades or distinctions. The attitudes of everyday individuals, the conflicts within ordinary families, all can serve as sources of inspiration for the work. Lastly, I would like to extend my appreciation to my guide teacher, Jocelyn, who provided substantial assistance in post-production editing. She selflessly devoted her valuable time to work through every single frame with me. Under her guidance, I came to understand that, beyond depicting the real world, storytelling is equally crucial.

CHEN Yining, HUANG Haowei, HOU Ying, LIN Zhitong

(Best in Features Video Reporting)

Initially, we are thankful for ourselves. We have not decided a name for our team so far, but throughout the challenging journey, we encouraged each other to persevere even in our most trying moments. During the process of shooting the video, we had paid our greatest effort to ensure every detail, and engaging with our interviewees made us feel that it was difficult to ask questions surrounding the terminal stage and death. Fortunately, thanks to the cooperation of our gracious interviewees, we did it, and learned a lot from their unwavering courage.

And We are deeply grateful for the guidance from our professors, especially the professional suggestions from Dr. Markus and great assistance from our interviewees Johnston Huang and Connie Lai, thank you so much for your patience and support!

Lastly, it’s our honor to accept this award and receive your appreciation for our work. We still have a lot to learn, to practice, to explore, and to believe.

I also would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Vincent Lam for his unwavering support and invaluable guidance. And to everyone who has played a part in my academic journey, thank you all!
