China and Scotland: Literature and Translation - 7th December, 2024
This event brings together Chinese and international experts in literary and cultural history for a conference that focuses on literary encounters between China and Scotland, as represented in poetry, fiction, drama and translation. It showcases the work of translators and publishers in bringing the literatures of Scotland to China, and explores the image of China in literary work produced by Scottish writers and translators, over the past century and a half. It aims to strengthen a network of academics and professionals who will promote future translation and scholarship on Scottish literature and China.
"Strengthening Your Application Further: Dos and Don’ts" – a Grant Writing Workshop by Dr. Xirui Liu(刘希瑞) – 4th December 2024
Dr. Liu Xirui received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from Minzu University of China in 2016. He is currently an Associate Professor at Henan University of Technology. Dr Liu has an extensive publication record and several research projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation, Ministry of Education, Henan Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Planning Office. His achievements in philosophy and social sciences have been recognized by several higher education institutions in Henan Province.
"A Good Topic is Half the Battle" – a Grant Writing Workshop by Professor Zhonglian Huang (黄忠廉) – 20th November, 2024
Huang Zhonglian is professor and postdoctoral supervisor at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies where he specializes in Translation Studies. Prof. Huang has published and translated 39 books and over 390 papers. He serves as the editor-in-chief of seven book series, including The Commercial Press Translation Studies Library and Contemporary Translation Studies Library. He is the recipient of thirteen prestigious grants including the National Social Science Fund of China (7 grants) and Ministerial and Provincial grants (6 grants). He has also served as a reviewer for the National Social Science Fund of China.
“Demystifying Chinese National Grants” – a Grant Writing Workshop by Professor Mengshan Ren (任孟山) – 6th November, 2024
ICCS is organizing this workshop as part of a series of initiatives to foster research and academic excellence among colleagues. The first workshop presenter, Professor Mengshan Ren (任孟山), is the Dean of the Graduate School and Director of the International Communication Center at the Communication University of China.
5-Minute FYP
The ICCS organized a 5-Minute FYP seminar series for FHSS students undertaking their Final Year Projects (FYPs) to share their work, learn from others, and further solidify and conceptualize their work. 5-Minute FYP seminars are held from October to December 2024.
