GASD Minor

Minor in Globalisation and Sustainable Development (GASD)

The GASD Minor has been conceived in the firm belief that the international perspective and highly interdisciplinary contents pursued within the Globalisation and Development (GAD) Major Programme – covering dimensions of social, economic and environmental governance – could well complement the study plan of a variety of other majors at UIC.
In fact, the GASD Minor intends to offer UIC students a chance to participate in a dynamic educational platform that prepares future global citizens for pressing social, economic and environmental challenges, at home and abroad. It is therefore informed by the aspiration to operate not just in harmony with, but also functionally to the most relevant and up-to-date trends in development governance at both national and transnational levels.
The general aim of the GASD Minor is to familiarize students with the important global drivers and trends that the GAD Major Programme typically deals with, such as the rise of the world’s “South”, the intensification of multilateral integration and cooperation mechanisms, as well as the emergence of global and regional governance agendas on development, sustainability and social inclusion.
The objective is to help students from different backgrounds make sense of global affairs’ complexity, and nurture their ability to ultimately cooperate effectively, upon graduation, as responsible global actors on behalf of private corporations, international organisations, academic institutions and public management agencies.
