There is so much more to a major than its name! A major is an intellectaul journey of 4 intense years through subjects that will shape your future skillset, culture and competence.
It is therefore important that the choice of major is based on a careful analysis of the courses that a student will actually take.
Graduate schools - where about 70% of all UIC and GAD students tend to go when they complete their undergraduate studies - will thoroughly analyse the list of courses that an applicant has taken during their bachelor's degree to verify that they meet the basic requirements of the graduate programme they target.
In GAD, we are fully aware of this, since we wish to forge future leaders able of joining the most prestigious graduate schools in the world.
Therefore, the list of GAD courses is carefully crafted to ensure that courses are universally recognised and understood to be foundational to a broad range of established academic disciplines that our graduate may aspire to after graduation.
Examples of such universally-recognized courses?!

⁃ Foundations of Political Science
⁃ Global Political Economy
⁃ Principles of Developlent Economics
⁃ Introduction yo Sustainable development
⁃ Globalisation: Trends Issues and Opportunities
⁃ Research Methods
⁃ Global Environmental Governance

In addition, we have also introduced clearly-named courses that provide precious practical knowledge of :

Plus, concentrations have been established in solid traditional fields like "International Development", with courses like International Organisations, ID Theory and Practice, Project Management in ID; and in "Public Administration" with courses like PA for digital society, Fiscal PA and more.
Electives courses include Principle of Intnational Law, Regional Integration and cooperation in EU, Regional Integration and Cooperation in ASEAN, and a number of other area-based courses focusing on Africa, Latin America, Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
In addition, students admitted from 2021 onwards will be required, by the end of their Y4, to have an "international experience" (consisting of a trip an exchange programme, a summer winter/school aborad, or just an experience in China but with significant "foreign" components like an internship or a research project) which will further prepare them to become active world citizens.
Most of the GAD courses are recognised anywhere across the world to be "keys" to various disciplines and therefore to a vast number of graduate programmes in the broad fields of: development studies, law, international relations, area studies, economics, public administration, public policy, sociology, data management and Information Technology.
These are some of the many for reasons why GAD truly unlocks a world of opportunities!
