On April 1, 2022, GAD had the honor to host Dr. Yin Hui, lecturer at the Department of Global Health of Peking University - as a special guest to the GAD International Organisations Lecture Series, delivering a lecture on global economic governance and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
Dr. Yin Hui
Dr. Yin gave an exceptionally thorough presentation on the role of AIIB in global as well as regional economic governance. The lecture provided the audience with an overview of globalisation, the institutional structuresand mechanisms of the global economy, the functions of global infrastructure investment and financing, the role of China and AIIB and how they benefit member countries’ economic growth and overall sustainable development.
During the Q&A session - moderated by Dr. Edoardo Monaco, the Programme Director of GAD - Dr. Yin shared insights on her involvment with AIIB as an expert in the field of global health. Dr. Yin pointed out that public health had long been a marginal area of investment for AIIB, until the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the institution to scale up its investment projects in the sector. It is important for policy makers and investorsalike, in fact, to realize that public health is and should be an integral part of a well-managed development governance agenda.

She has been a visiting scholar at the Department of Global Health, University of Washington. Shealso serves as a member of the Trade and Health Research Network of WHO and WTO, and the International Union for Health Promotion and Education.
