Alumni Gathering 2022


    On November 9, the Globalisation and Development(GAD) invited a a group of enthusiastic alumni to share their study experience in the GAD/GIR and their achievements in multiple fields, from business to academia, energy analysis, environmental governance and public policy.


    I learnt information literacy skill and independent thinking habit in GIR/GAD. Rigorous curriculum in GIR/GAD build a solid base for theory studies in graduate school. 

    Ms. Xiong Kaili (2014 GIR/GAD) Marketing Manager at Pfizer Inc.


    Ms. Xiong Kaili graduated from GIR/GAD in 2014 and completed a master of public policy in Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at Virginia University. She is now working as a marketing manager at Pfizer Inc. Ms. Xiong shared her study experience in UIC GIR/GAD, her internship, graduate school experience and working experience after graduation, answered questions on career development in Q&A session.


    When I have internship in environmental sustainable development organizations, I am happy that what I learnt and what I do helps to solve practical environmental problems.

    Ms. Guo Jingyu(2021 GIR/GAD) Global Governance and Ethics MSc, University College London

    Ms. Guo not only shared her study experience and methods but also internships in environmental sustainable development think tank. She explicitly introduced different types and working contents in an environmental sustainable development organization. Meanwhile, she reminded in heartful manner that sustainable development organizations offer internship opportunity for current undergraduate who can collect internships or volunteer recruiting information if they pay attention to organizations' websites and WeChat posts.


    I am studying in International Development Studies MSc program, at Utrecht University in Holland. I enjoy studying new knowledge everyday though I have to stay in library to prepare for intensive courses and exams.

    Ms. Sun Yuan(2019 GAD/GIR) International Development Studies MSc program, Utrecht University

    Ms. Sun Yuan graduated from UIC-GIR/GAD program in 2019, worked as an assistant instructor in GIR/GAD program for three years, and has been studying at International Development Studies MSc program at Utrecht University from August in 2022. She shared her busy study life and worked in a climate change non-profit organization at Holland.


    One should find your strength as early as possible and actively explore the career path that you like and you are good at. 

    Ms. Wang Yuemeng(2021 GAD/GIR) Sustainable technology consultant at Accenture

    Ms. Wang graduated from GIR/GAD in 2021, and studied at International Development Studies MSc program at Utrecht University, now worked at Sustainable technology consultant at Accenture. She shared her work experience and related skills, encouraged cohorts to explore their advantages through internships and volunteer work to find their favorite job.


    "Find the suitable study attitudes and method to overcome the laziness. " 

    Ms. Jiang Xuguorong (2022 GIR/GAD) MSc Security Studies, University College of London

    Ms. Jiang graduated from GIR/GAD in 2022, has been studying at MSc Security Studies at University College of London. She collected and shared many precise and effective study strategies in time management, literature review and academic writing.



    " Don't rush, be patient to yourself, follow your heart, find your pace and way. " 

    Mr. Tan Yuhao( 2021 GIR/GAD) MSc International Development, The University of Edinburgh.

    Mr. Tan graduated from GIR/GAD in 2021. He studies in MSc International Development at The University of Edinburgh now. He shared spectacular experience and bountiful achievement in gap year. He suggested if any cohort would choose to gap for a year, he or she need to experience new stuff and learn knowledges during the year.


    "Many things are out of my expectations when I arrived at London.The home is behind you, the world is ahead. I achieved the satisfying results after overcoming difficulties and challenges. " 

    Ms. Qin Siyao ( 2022 GIR/GAD graduate) MSc Global Governance and Ethics, University College of London

    Ms. Qin graduated from GIR/GAD in 2022, now studies at MSc Global Governance and Ethics at University College of London. She introduced her experience in graduate admission and personal statement writing skill for Year 4 students, and shared her study materials and tools for cohorts. Also, she referred her challenges both in life and in academic when she just arrived London, and her self development after challenges .


    "Group work is important for work place. Many assignments in GIR/GAD are group assignments which improve my communication skills and cooperation skills. "

    Ms. Shao Chenhan (2020 GIR/GAD) Research Associate at Blanko Public Policy Center

    Ms. Shao graduated from GIR/GAD in 2020, and studied in Master of Public Policy at Duke University at United States. She began to work in Blanko Public Policy Center as research associate after completion of degree. She shared in a heartful manner about her experience in work, and answered questions on how to find a job in public policy in Q&A session.


    Sharing of GIR/GAD alumni offer concrete help to current GAD students and encourage young students to explore themselves, find themselves and improve themselves in the future.


    We representing the Globalisation and Development faculty and students express gratitudes to all the efforts and contributions of GIR/GAD alumni and expect our next event at 2023 !
