Guest lecture: Social Inclusion Global and African Perspectives by Mr. Lawrence Egulu

    On March 27, 2023, the Globalisation and Development (GAD) Programme had the honour of hosting Mr. Lawrence Egulu, currently Commissioner for Employment Services at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development of the Republic of Uganda. Mr. Lawrence  delivered a lecture titled: “Social Inclusions: Global and African Perspectives.


    Mr. Egulu is a Development Policy Economist by training, with over 25 years’ experience in economic and social policy operations in the public and private sectors. He previously worked in various capacities at the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Bank (WB) and labor unions. He has written and provided policy advice, designed and implemented a number of programmes and projects on youth employment and entrepreneurship, migration, social protection, poverty reduction, climate change, economic literacy.



    Mr. Egulu discussed social inclusion in African societies from the following four perspectives:

    • Africa’s political and economic history.

    • current economic and social situation.

    • key challenges and bottlenecks

    • policy recommendations and how to address inequalities, unemployment, poverty and social exclusion.
