On May 18, the Globalisation and Development (GAD) Programme of the Department of Social Sciences (DSS) was extremely honored to receive the visit of Mr. Domenico Nardelli, Treasurer of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
Mr. Nardelli offered the numerous students and faculty members in attendance a detailed and highly informative lecture on the nature and mission of the AIIB, and in general on the role that such multilateral development banks (MDBs) can play in fostering development and sustainability across the Global South.
The lecture – organised and moderated by Dr. Edoardo Monaco, Associate Professor and Acting Head of DSS - covered, among other themes, the origins of AIIB, its quasi-global outreach, the contribution of “infrastructure” to socio-economic progress, as well as the deep embedding of sustainability principles into the many activities the bank promotes with the support of a solid “triple-A” credit rating.
Mr. Nardelli received numerous questions from students in the audience. He praised the quality and breadth of the preparation they receive in DSS and encouraged them to apply for the jobs at the AIIB in the near future.
