From March 31 to April 2, 2025, Professor Zhao Xiaobin, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and a lecturer in the GAD program, organized a field study tour for students enrolled in the elective course "International Trade, Globalization, and the Belt and Road Initiative." The tour covered Zhuhai's Gaolan Port, Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shenzhen, focusing on sectors such as semiconductors, ICT, the Internet, smart manufacturing, and artificial intelligence. The group visited six industry-leading companies, with approximately 30 students participating. The companies included Anyu Digital Technology Co., Ltd., Guangzhou CanSemi Tech Co., Ltd., Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., E.VAT Master Technology Co., Ltd., and Guangdong LY iTech Manufacturing Co., Ltd., showcasing a spectrum from traditional export-oriented electronics manufacturing to cutting-edge tech companies in the Greater Bay Area.
On the morning of March 31, the group departed for Nanshui Town in the Gaolan Port area of Zhuhai’s Jinwan District. Their first stop was Anyu Digital Technology Co., Ltd., where they observed the production line for low-altitude flying devices. They learned about the manufacturing processes and applications of drone products and explored the operational models of e-commerce exports.
In the afternoon, the team arrived in Guangzhou to visit Guangzhou Cansemi Tech Co., Ltd. A company representative provided an in-depth overview of the firm’s current developments and the semiconductor and chip industry. The session included a Q&A segment where students and faculty posed insightful questions.
The following day, the team visited Huawei’s Songshan Lake Research Base in Dongguan. Under Professor Zhao's guidance, students explored the ecological environment of the "Xiliu Beipo Village" research campus, gaining firsthand insights into Huawei’s research ecosystem. In the afternoon, they proceeded to Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen’s Bantian district, touring its exhibition hall to witness the rapid growth of China's tech enterprises.
On the morning of April 2, the group visited Tencent’s Binhai Tower. Through an immersive experience in its exhibition hall and interactive sessions, students gained a comprehensive understanding of Tencent’s history and its robust development across various internet domains.
The team then visited eVatMaster Technology Co., Ltd., where they learned about the company’s smart compliance platform for cross-border e-commerce. A representative explained how digitalization empowers SMEs to expand into overseas markets, providing valuable insights into cross-border e-commerce and related industry trends.
The final stop of the tour was Guangdong LY iTech Manufacturing Co., Ltd., where students marveled at the company’s expertise in precision manufacturing, diverse product portfolio, and automated production lines. During an exchange seminar organized by LY iTech, students actively engaged in discussions and found the experience highly enriching.
Conclusion
Over the three-day field trip, students gained a comprehensive understanding of cutting-edge technological developments and future trends in the Greater Bay Area through visits to six representative tech companies. The experience proved highly educational and inspiring for all participants.
