On November 24, 2021, the Globalisation and Development (GAD) Programme invited Dr. Coraline Goron, an assistant professor of environmental policy at Duke Kunshan University, to share with students and staff her insights and research on China’s recent practice of multilateral environmental governance in the fields of climate change and biodiversity.
Dr. Goron provided useful context by briefly explaining the key tenets of both the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the UN Convention on Biodiversity, and then pointed out China’s crucial role in regard to, in particular, the Paris Agreement Rulebook and the Global Biodiversity Framework, as debated, respectively, at the recent COP26 meeting in Glasgow and COP15 meeting in Kunming.
Dr. Goron’s research focuses on China’s environmental policy, climate change and energy governance, both domestically and internationally. Her most recent publications include “China’s global ecological civilization and multilateral environmental governance” and “From targets to inspections: the issue of fairness in China’s environmental policy implementation”, with Genia Kostka (EP, 2020).
Duke Kunshan University’s international Master of Environmental Policy (iMEP) Program, where she teaches, trains students to become global environmental leaders and problem-solvers in the future.
GAD students and faculty members in attendance were grateful for the opportunity to hear a renowned scholar’s perspective on topics that are universally relevant, and that closely reflect their major’s contents.
The GAD community sincerely thanks Dr. Coraline Goron for her kind, timely and highly informative contribution!
