When I first enrolled in this major, as a freshman, what the professor said was still kept in my mind, “consider carefully and figure out whether or not to stay here. Probably you will regret it later.”
Being a journalist student for four years, I can tell myself determinedly that I don't regret it. Because there is saying in China called"广阔天地,大有作为”, which means “there is a lot to do in this world.”
I can't promise that I must stay in the news industry in my future career, or at least be an excellent media professional. But I am very grateful that I have accepted systematic and professional media literacy training in the past four years, which provided me with thinking power and the truth-seeking spirit of journalists. I mean—this is not inborn and irreplaceable. In such a post-truth era where the media is highly saturated, every citizen needs a different degree of media literacy, and to make a basic judgment. Therefore, I am so honored that I have gained it in UIC.
Everyone is a disseminator of information, and everyone has the right to speak. I hope that I’m able to become a responsible part of it. At the same time, I will also uphold the "big heart" that a journalist should have.
Wish this society can still give journalism a little patience and maintain confidence!
