Studying MSc Global Media and Communications at LSE and USC

After taking off the high school uniform and moving on from the similar college entrance examination goals, I initially chose to study Journalism not because of my passion but because of the confusion of losing the direction of the goal instead. At that time, I hoped to find my own future direction by contacting all kinds of people and exploring the stories behind all walks of life. Therefore, my four years in the International Journalism program were more like a journey of growth and self-understanding. At the end of this wonderful journey, I was surprised to find that I had the confidence to face the heavy workload and study and developed a genuine enthusiasm for the media industry.

I am very grateful to every knowledgeable teacher with free thinking who accepted and guided me during the four years of study. Despite the intense coursework, the combination of theory and practice in my major's curriculum has enabled me to accumulate comprehensive professional knowledge and practical experience. The theoretical courses have trained my open and diversified way of thinking and laid a solid foundation for my further study at LSE. However, what I have gained in the practical courses gives me the greatest sense of accomplishment. From planning and selecting topics to interview, producing, filming and editing, every time I dig deeper into a new topic is a deconstruction and reorganization of the intricate social relationship. Every exploration made me wonder how similar and different I am from the others.

In today's ubiquitous new media, the media, communication and digital environment are undergoing rapid, profound and extensive changes providing media practitioners with unknown opportunities and challenges. Still, our pursuit of accurate and valuable media content remains unchanged. IJ has taught me the attitude of truth-seeking, equipped me with the skills of rational analysis, stimulated my potential so that I dare to try, and given me the courage to shoulder the pride and responsibility of an IJer to set off again from a new starting point.
