After going through the typhoon “Compass” and being delayed for a week, the MCOM Promotion Day was held from 14:00 to 17:00 on October 20 at T29 SSAC. To provide practical information on MCOM for JC newcomers to choose their majors, the IJ x MCOM Academic Society has set up four stalls for activities and many round tables for teachers to handle students’ queries.

The game stalls are inspired by four major courses of MCOM students: Photographic Journalism, Reporting Laboratory, Communication Theories, and Advanced Writing and Reporting. After experiencing these unique activities, newcomers can get a glimpse of the daily life of MCOM students.
“Personally speaking, the most interesting stall is the Communication Theories Puzzle stall,” Wei, a freshman in JC, claimed. “During completing puzzles, I can know more academic schools and their founders, and then sort out contextual knowledge of communication theories history.”

Meanwhile, all MCOM teachers were invited to this promotion day, giving students the freedom to communicate with them. Xu Yue, a JC freshman, has expressed her anxiety about her English level to Dr. Youn, and his clever metaphor and encouragement dispelled her doubts and left her with a deep impression.
Some juniors majoring in MCOM have also shared their internship experiences with freshmen, such as Tang Guoguo from the Guangdong TV, Su Qingyang from the Xinhua News Agency, and Li Tao from the Southern Urban Daily.

However, this activity still remains to be improved. “There is a lack of teacher’s introduction,” Chen Yunle, a sophomore in MCOM major, expressed her suggestions. “Although we invite them, the freshmen don’t know what do they specifically, so they raised some irrelevant questions during their conversations.”

Also, Chen said the venue, T29 SSAC, is smaller than T4 SSAC, so the stall distribution is more crowded than before. “It may be hard for participants to distinguish which part of stalls is for teachers and which is for tea break,” she stated.
This promotion day has also promoted many creative products as rewards. Participants can get tattoo stickers and canvas bags as long as meeting the conditions of exchanging prizes.
