The Documentary Night: American Factory

    MCOM x IJ Academic Society has held a screening night for the Academy Award-winning documentary American Factory for all documentary lovers in UIC.

    “The director condensed many social issues in this documentary,” Ms. Dai Fei, lecturer of the MCOM program, explaining her original intention of choosing this work for exhibition. “I hope you all can enjoy discussing them after screening.”



    The host, Ms. Dai Fei, also want to promote MCOM major for other students by informing them which kind of work MCOM students produce.

    The documentary, American Factory, delivered a story about how the Chinese Fuyao Glass Factory set up a branch in the US during the Great Depression of 2008. Cultural conflicts, labor unions and companies, environment protection, and other ethical issues were raised for documentary lovers in UIC to discuss.



    Students have shared their feedback and ideas around this work and debated.

    “I’m learning Cultural Relativism in our ethics course, which makes me think about whether an event is an ethical right or not under different cultures,” Xu Kangna, a year two student in MCOM, said that. “As a result, I come here to participate in this brainstorming session.”

    The documentary night is a traditional activity of IJ x MCOM Academic Society, occuring each semester.
