Invitation to the English Interpreting Preliminary Competition of the 2023 “FLTRP · ETIC Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students

Dear Students and Staff:

You are cordially invited to the English Interpreting Preliminary Competition (UIC Round) of the 2023 “FLTRP · ETIC Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students, which will be held on this Sunday morning, 24 September 2023 at 9:00-12:00 in T2-101 Lecture Theatre.

The 2023 “FLTRP · ETIC Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students was initiated by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP). This Contest builds on the success of the “FLTRP · ETIC Cup” National English Speaking, Writing, and Reading Competitions over the past two decades. The purpose of this Contest is to promote foreign language education reform and talent training, as well as to make China’s voice heard through international communication.

This year's Contest is open to all full-time undergraduates, postgraduates and overseas students across China. It is divided into two categories: English, and other foreign languages. The English category is further divided into Speaking, Writing, Reading, Translation, and Interpreting competitions. The Contest adopts a three-tier system of university-level Preliminary, provincial-level Semi-final, and national-level Final. It is especially worth mentioning that the Semi-final of Guangdong Province will be held by UIC between late October and early November.

The English Interpreting preliminary competition is hosted by the Applied Translation Studies Programme of the Department of Languages and Cultures, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Participants are from various programmes of UIC. We are looking forward to seeing you there at the competition this Sunday. Let’s give the contestants our wholehearted support!
