On March 22, 2024, Dr. Liu Chen was invited to UIC to give a lecture on the topic of "Japan and East Asia in the Edo period." He graduated from Kyoto University in Japan in 2019, and is an associate professor at the Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies at Shan Dong University, , with his main research interests in Japanese history, modern political history, and the comparative culture of Chinese and Japanese folklore. This lecture examines the political, social, and cultural development of Japan in the Edo period from the perspective of Japanese history, explores the relationship between Japan and the East Asian world, especially its interaction with China, and analyzes Japan's position in the East Asian world during that period, presenting a comprehensive and lively historical image of modern Japan to the audience.
