On May 2, 2024, UIC held its Open Day, welcoming students and parents from across the country to participate in a variety of engaging activities. This year, CFLC actively participated in the event.
Supported by the Visual Humanities(VH) project and senior management, the CFLC team meticulously arranged display boards featuring visuals of global cultures and set up a consultation desk for admissions, courses, and specialized education. This provided valuable guidance and advice to parents and students.
Consultation Desk for Admissions, Majors, and Specialized Education
At the consultation desk, many parents showed great interest in their children learning a second or even a third foreign language. They also inquired about UIC’s multilingual teaching environment and liberal arts education resources. The booth saw a steady stream of visitors eager to explore broader educational paths for their children. The well-prepared multicultural posters, Indo-Tibetan mandala paintings, and large KT panels also attracted considerable attention, demonstrating a strong interest in world languages and cultures.
Engaging Mock Classroom Demonstration
Dr. Arina Rotaru’s demo class, based on her general education course "Examining World Literature," was at full capacity. She discussed the concept of "Utopia," its significance, and its connections to literature, culture, and our lives. Through rich imagery and vivid narration, she introduced the "Peach Blossom Garden" from Chinese culture, making participants feel as if they were there. This exploration of "Utopia" and "Peach Blossom Spring" provided a deeper understanding of different cultures worldwide.
Ms. Sophie Dubois-Pepin’s French I course also drew a large audience. She demonstrated basic French greetings and cultural icons, allowing participants to experience the French language intuitively. The active interaction between teachers and students created a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. This session was not only a language lesson but also a brief cross-cultural exchange, sparking interest in French culture.
The Open Day not only showcased UIC’s educational strength and campus culture but also provided an opportunity for the outside world to gain a deeper understanding of CFLC’s unique educational philosophy in area and country studies. We highly value every parent and student who visits our campus, as their participation signifies recognition of our college and trust in CFLC’s multicultural atmosphere. We look forward to welcoming more outstanding students to the UIC family and embarking on an exciting journey together.
