Teaching and Learning Evaluation between Teachers and Students

Public Relations Writing PRA3013

Student Comment:

I suggest that the due date of the first assignment could be arranged earlier than the current one.

Response:

The request will be taken into consideration in future due date arrangement.

Student Comment:

The instructor could slow down the speaking rate.

Response:

The request will be seriously considered in future by balancing the varied learning needs of all students.

Another General Response:

I'm very glad to see this comment from my PR Writing students. I, too, think writing skills are integral to their development both as communication professionals and global citizens. I also intend to continue to integrate this workshop model in my writing classroom.

Principles of Advertising PRA2013

Student Comment:

One student mentioned that the instructor could slow down the speaking rate.

Response:

The request will be seriously considered in future by balancing the varied learning needs of all students.

Fundamentals of Communication COMM1023

Student Comment:

Could the duration of quizzes be longer?

Response:

Duration for quiz has been/will be adjusted based on discussion with students and the length of questions.

Principles of Advertising PRA2013

Student Comment:

Maybe have more conversations after class.

Response:

Instructor's consultation hours can be accessed openly by students and appointments can be made via email.

Branding in Advertising PRA3073

Student Comment:

Maybe more contents.

Response:

I will add more content in the future. I will expand the content of the slides by including more examples. I will also add additional lectures such as Leveraging Secondary Associations or Branding in the context of Marketing Communications.

Communication Research COMM3033

Student Comment:

Give more class about SPSS course

Response (to multiple comments):

The assignment guidelines were clear enough, if not too clear. The issue was that some students had problems understanding the studied material, which

might have been too challenging for them. I will make the assignments simpler and provide more time for completion in the future. I will design projects so students can revise their work and improve it. I will also create more assignments in the first part of the semester.

Student Comment:

More immediate and settled feedback (teacher sometimes would give different answers about the same question)

Response:

If I gave two answers for the same question, there are at least two possibilities: The questions were not the same, or I misunderstood one or both questions. In the future, I suggest to tell me about this right away.

Digital Media PRA3063

Student Comment:

Combine more aspects of knowledge to help the student to understand.

Response:

I will include more theory in the future so students have better understanding of the reasons behind all of the assignments.

Integrated Marketing Communication PRA4033

Student Comment:

Why pre had 50% of video quality. We do not major in video making.

Response:

The video quality consisted of 20%, not 50%. As the description suggests and as I explained multiple times, it was not about your video-making skills but only about the quality of the video you showed me. In the past, many students posted very low-quality videos where I had difficulty seeing and hearing what they were presenting. This significantly affected their grade. I have decided to include it in the rubrics to avoid this issue.

Student Comment:

More practice

Response:

I will add more tutorials for the students to practice what I am teaching in the lectures.

Special Topics and Public Relations and Advertising PRA4031

Student Comment:

If the ddl of the individual essay can be later, that would be better!

Response:

I always take students opinions about ddl into consideration. Perhaps it would be better if you communicated it with me in the class.

Student Comment:

Giving more useful example to describe how to use those visual communication theory into the advertisement?

Response:

I am not sure what "useful example" refers to. It would be better if you could be more specific. I have given multiple examples of advertisements, and we did various types of group analyses throughout the semester. Perhaps, next time I will ask students to show me the example they think is "useful" for analyzing.

Photography and Videography in Advertising PRA3113

Student Comment:

Maybe video and photo should be separated into two courses so that we could learn more from each course.

Response:

This ME course is introductory and interest oriented. The core idea of this course is not about format and technical knowhow, but about visual storytelling. It would be better when they are combined to reinforce the sense of an integrated communication campaign.

How to group Final Year Project (FYP)? How to contact the supervisors? How to determine the research topic / select the topic in FYP?

1. Grouping

Every three students form a group and you can find your teammates in the near future or in the summer vacation.

2. Supervisors Connection

Please contact your supervisor after next semester, and only one supervisor can be contacted by each group. For the students who have contacted the supervisor, your wishes have been known. However, we will inform you of the final result of supervisors’ assignment two weeks after the beginning of the next semester.

3. The Research and Campaign Topics of FYP

In this academic year, FYP topics still remain two types: campaign and research. FYP can be prepared in the first semester of the senior year, but the final defense and final report submission will still be completed in the second semester of the senior year (early May).

Research: After completing the matching of supervisors in the first semester, you can contact them to determine the research topic and start to prepare it according to the plan.

Campaign: The category of this FYP campaign has changed compared with previous years. Students do not need to wait for the Campus Advertising Competition for College Students to be announced next spring. You can choose the

topics of domestic and foreign public relations, advertising and marketing competitions published from September 2021 to March 2022. After confirming the topics with your supervisors, you can start to prepare for FYP. Some of the competitions’ schedule can refer to the following pictures.

Two weeks after the beginning of next semester, we will give you a specific FYP timeline, including the time of topic selection, the time of defense and the submission time of final report. In short, you can forget FYP for a while and concentrate on the final exam. Then in the summer vacation, I hope everyone can have a wonderful time, and wish you all can get high scores of IELTS, TOEFL and GRE!

During the four years of University, will the University provide some practical or internship opportunities in advertising, brand or public relations?

The major of Public Relations and Advertising in our school is different from the advertising and public relations-related majors in other Chinese universities. We not only attach importance to the establishment of students' theoretical knowledge, but also pay more attention to the cultivation and exercise of students' professional ability and practical ability through classroom teaching, competitions and practical projects inside and outside the school, etc.

The course assessment of our professional courses includes not only the mid-term tests and final examinations, but also teacher-student seminars, teacher-student tutorials, group discussions, one-to-one counseling, group project display, proposal and implementation, etc.

Moreover, PRA Agency has been established in 2020 to provide our students with a social practice platform for learning, service, research, experiment and innovation, so as to truly connect with enterprises ‘projects. Agency helps customers to position their brands, establish brand loyalty, plan and promote their brands, etc.

In addition, we have set up a Major Elective Course, Public Relations and Advertising Internship (accounting for 3 credits), to encourage students to practice in advertising companies in the summer vacation. Teachers and instructors also strive to provide students with internship resources.
