Dear Students,
We are pleased to inform you that the 2024 “FLTRP ETIC Cup” National Foreign Language Competition for College Students is up and running from April to December this year. This prestigious Competition is hosted by Beijing Foreign Studies University and organized by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, with guidance from the Chinese Ministry of Education and other prominent academic bodies.
More than 700 contestants representing 70 universities in Guangdong will compete for the precious places to represent Guangdong Province in the National Final to be held in Beijing in December. Last year, our UIC students showcased exceptional talent, securing an impressive total of 13 prizes in the Provincial Semi-final, and a superb 3 prizes in the National Final. This November, UIC is proud to host the Provincial Semi-final for the second time.
Purpose of the Competition:
The Competition aims to drive innovation in foreign language education by enhancing the knowledge, curriculum, and teaching methods related to language studies. It seeks to inspire global interest in Chinese culture and values while providing a platform for college students to showcase their language skills and creativity. Through this Contest, we also aim to present a positive and dynamic image of China and its youth to the world.
Format of the Competition:
The Competition is divided into three stages: the university-level preliminary round, the provincial semi-final, and the national final. The provincial semi-final for Guangdong, hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, will be held at UIC from November 2 to 10, 2024. Winners from this stage will represent Guangdong Province in the national final to be held in Beijing this December.
Eligibility:
All full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students at UIC, including international students, are encouraged to participate in the Competition.
Categories:
The UIC Preliminary consists of three categories:
1.International Communication Competence (including Comprehensive Abilities and Public Speaking)
2.Translation (Translation and Interpretation)
3.Short Video
Registration:
All participants must register on the official website (https://ucc.fltrp.com). The deadline for registration is 12:00 noon Tuesday, Sept. 17th.
Requirements:
1.International Communication Competence:
oThis includes a Comprehensive Abilities contest and a Public Speaking contest, covering key topics from Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
oThe Comprehensive Abilities contest will be held online on September 21, 2024, at a designated computer room on campus.
oThe Public Speaking contest will take place on campus on September 25, 2024.
2.Translation:
oThe Translation contest will test Chinese-English translation skills and will be conducted online at a designated computer room on campus on September 21, 2024.
oThe Interpretation contest will be held on campus on September 25, 2024.
3.Short Video:
oParticipants should create an original short video (3-5 minutes) based on the theme “Digital China”. The video must include both Chinese and English subtitles.
oThe deadline for submission is September 25, 2024, and videos must be submitted to the designated email (fltrp@uic.edu.cn).
Awards:
Winners of the UIC Preliminary will receive certificates and may advance to the provincial semi-final.
