Centre of Foreign language and Cultures in Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences provide 3 levels of Korean language courses as free electives and a Korean Culture Course as a free elective.
-Korean I (KOR1013)
This course is designed for students who have no prior knowledge of Korean language. The primary goal is to help novice learners of Korean language build basic communicative competence by developing their ability to construct language around topics of interest and apply Korean language to real-life situations. Students will learn Hangeul (Korean alphabet), and basic sentence structures needed to develop skills in Korean language learning. Students will learn proper oral and written use of the language, especially in consideration of Korean contexts and cultures.

-Korean II (KOR1003)
This course aims to introduce practical Korean expressions which are commonly used in real-life situations (e.g. when ordering food, buying merchandise, etc.). In this course, students will learn about expressions concerned with numbers (e.g. price, date, time, etc.), and more about Korean grammatical endings and markers based on their knowledge learned in Korean I. Using these endings students can express tenses and negatives. Students will also learn about Korean culture, and in particular vocabulary for Korean food, appropriate Korean table manners, etc.
-Korean III (KOR2003)
This course aims to increase students’ knowledge in the use of Korean acquired in the previous levels, Korean I & II. The content of the course refers to TOPIK (Test of Proficiency In Korean) Beginner Level 2 (Beginner level 2 in TOPIK is equal to the European Framework level A2). This course is coordinated to link spoken language and written language while focusing on the development of communicative language skills through various approaches. This course contains phrases related to phone usage, event invitation, appointments, etc. Students will learn more Korean endings and markers to express their intention, future plan, prohibition and asking about prediction. Overall, students will develop their Korean communication skills with understanding of culture and context.
-Korean Culture (KOR2013)
This course is designed for students who have limited knowledge of Korean culture and society. The course will introduce and provide a broad exploration of Korean culture and society with visual and audio materials in order to facilitate students’ appreciation of contemporary Korean society and culture through the instruction of both traditional and modern Korean issues through the lens of history, economics, language, food, and domestic lifestyle. This course will provide students with the necessary exposure to appreciate various aspects of Korean culture. Students will be expected to engage with the course content through discussion, providing opinions on relevant topics, and comparing their other cultures. Through this course, students are encouraged to broaden their worldview on foreign cultures and to become knowledgeable members of the global community.
