Digital Interpreting Laboratory

The Digital Interpreting Laboratory for the Applied Translation Studies (ATS) programme is constructed in accordance with the most advanced international standards, offering comprehensive hardware and software support for interpretation training and instruction. The laboratory simulates real-life interpreting environment, creating an immersive learning environment for students to ensure they can study and practice in conditions that closely resemble real-life working scenarios.

The laboratory is equipped with an interpretation training system that is versatile for all types of interpretation skills training, supporting a suite of functionalities including audio and video recording, multimedia broadcasting, simultaneous interpretation, and conference interpreting. With this system, instructors can provide real-time feedback on students’ interpretation performance, while students can engage in self-directed practice after class. By reviewing their recorded interpretations, they can debrief and thereby make strides in their skills.

Furthermore, to cater to the diverse needs of interpretation training, the laboratory is not only equipped with dedicated spaces for consecutive interpreting studies but also features several technologically advanced booths for simultaneous interpretation. These booths have been acoustically optimized and are furnished with the latest technology, allowing students to experience the complexities of real-time translation in a professional setting. The integration of group study spaces with fully functional interpretation suites ensures comprehensive training for students, preparing them for the dynamic challenges they will encounter in their future careers. This comprehensive facility fosters an immersive learning experience, enabling students to conduct their training in an environment that closely resembles future professional scenarios.

Smart Translation Laboratory

The Smart Translation Laboratory employs a collaborative group interaction model, equipped with state-of-the-art educational technology. Each student station is furnished with a computer and is loaded with a suite of leading computer-assisted translation tools, such as Trados, memoQ, YiCAT, and others. Through hands-on practice at the workstations, students gain mastery of mainstream translation technologies, thereby enhancing the efficiency and quality of their translations.

The Smart Translation Laboratory empowers students to delve into the intricacies of translation theory and further solidify their grasp through hands-on practice. This pedagogical approach, which marries theoretical knowledge with practical experience, markedly elevates students’ translation competencies and work productivity. Additionally, the laboratory cultivates an engaging and interactive learning environment where group studying and cooperation ensures that each student is actively involved in class discussions and learning processes. Instructors utilize intelligent, networked, and synchronized equipment to provide immediate feedback on students’ translations and tool utilization, enabling swift identification of areas for improvement and fostering continuous refinement of students’ translation skills.
